CUBS: Greater comfort with discreet solar shading
Background
CUBS is based in Greve and develops digital solutions for the energy sector. In modern office environments, daylight and views play an important role in the workplace experience, but large glazed areas can also present challenges in terms of heat and glare when the sun is high in the sky.
Although the building’s design provides some natural shade from the cantilevered roof, this was not sufficient to reduce the sun’s impact on the upper floors.
Consequently, there was a need for discreet solar shading that could reduce heat and glare without significantly altering the building’s architecture or the view.
The process
Optinor installed 3M™ Prestige 70 Exterior on the glazed sections on the second floor of the building.
The external installation makes it possible to reduce a significant proportion of the sun’s heat before it penetrates the glass. At the same time, the film maintains a high level of natural daylight and a clear view.
3M™ Prestige 70 Exterior is a metal-free, spectrally selective solar film, developed for external installation on flat glass. According to 3M, the film can, amongst other things, reduce solar gain and glare, whilst maintaining a high level of visible light.
The installation was carried out under favourable conditions, with a focus on achieving a uniform and unobtrusive result.
The result
The result is a more comfortable workplace with better control over the sun’s effects – without compromising on daylight or the view.

- Protection against up to 99.9% of UV radiation, depending on the glazing configuration
