Isn’t toughened glass safe enough?
When toughened glass shatters, it breaks into thousands of tiny pieces that initially appear harmless. However, in the event of an explosion, these shards are propelled through the air at such high speed that they effectively become small projectiles capable of causing serious injury. This can be addressed with safety film, which holds the glass together so that it does not shatter and strike people or property. Another option is shatter-resistant glass, which can provide extra protection in the event of an explosion.
What is safety film?
Security film is a transparent film that is applied to glass surfaces. It is specially manufactured to provide extra protection against break-ins, accidents and explosions.
What is safety glass/shatterproof glass?
Shatterproof glass, also known as safety glass, is made from polycarbonate, which is 300 times stronger than glass. It can withstand vandalism, break-ins, gunshots or explosions.
How does security film work?
Security film works by creating an extra protective barrier on the glass surface. In the event of an attempted break-in, the film makes it more difficult for the burglar to gain entry and can delay a break-in. The film holds glass shards together, thereby minimising the risk of injury to people and damage to the interior.
What is the difference between burglar-proof windows and security film?
Burglar-proof windows are typically made from thicker, reinforced glass and often feature multiple locking mechanisms. Security film is a more flexible and cost-effective solution that can be fitted to windows to improve security. Burglar-proof windows may require a complete replacement of existing windows, whilst security film can be easily installed.
